Support Partners for Home

Dear Neighbors:

During this pandemic, we’ve all been told to shelter in place.
But what about the most vulnerable among us who have no place to shelter?

As those of you who came to our April 15 IPNA Zoom Meeting heard from Councilmember Amir Farokhi, the City of Atlanta is testing our homeless neighbors for COVID-19 and is housing those who test positive in a downtown hotel that has been converted to isolation housing. Homeless COVID-19 patients are cared for in the isolation hotel, giving them a safe place to recover and helping prevent the further spread of the disease. Another local hotel is being converted into housing for the city’s homeless population to keep our most vulnerable neighbors safe.

Important Notice - Proposed By-Laws Amendment and Nominations for New IPNA Officers

IPNA BOARD OF DIRECTORS NOMINEES

by Neil Kinkopf, Nominating Committee Chair

As you may know, the IPNA by-laws require that in April of each year the Nominating Committee bring a slate of nominees to the membership.  The slate of nominees will fill the Board positions whose terms expire in June.  This year those positions are President, Treasurer, Vice President for Zoning, and Vice President for Planning.  Additional (which is to say competing) nominations may be made from the floor at the April IPNA meeting.  By the end of the April IPNA meeting, nominations will be closed and an election will be held at the May IPNA meeting.

Safe Ideas for Celebrating Festival Weekend

Fellow Inman Parkers -
We are so sad that we will not have Festival this year, but we've come up with some ideas to help keep the spirit of Festival and Inman Park alive! Please follow all government regulations, and let's show our spirit on Festival weekend, April 24-26! This year, we're calling it 2020 Inman Park UNFestival & Tour AT Home.
Here are the fun, and safe, activities we came up with to show our neighborhood pride:
1. Color butterflies and hang them in your windows (Butterfly coloring patterns attached at bottom of page, compliments of Cooper Pierce)
2. Fly your butterfly banners and flags
3. Use chalk to decorate sidewalks with butterflies, positive messages, and obstacle courses (hopscotch diagram, wavy lines for walking funny, skinny lines for walking heel to toe in a straight line, start and finish lines for short runs)
4. Decorate your car for an UNparade - have it decorated by 2pm Saturday 4/25 for the UNparade start. To be clear - we are not having an actual parade. This would be for people to enjoy as they're strolling around the neighborhood.
5. Last, but definitely not least! On 2pm, Saturday 4/25, we invite you to join us on your porch to make the loudest hoot & hollering you can make! Just like we've been doing for healthcare professionals in the evenings, let's show support for our neighborhood as well! Bang on pots & pans, yell, cheer, clap, celebrate!
6. Coming Soon - UNfestival t-shirts and posters will soon be available for online purchase. Make sure to follow the Inman Park Festival Facebook page for further instructions.
If you have any questions, please contact [email protected].
Maintain the 6' rule, stay safe and wash your hands!

Procedure for Upcoming April 15 IPNA Meeting

Dear IPNA Members:
It’s important that we continue to communicate and to carry on as best we can during our time of physical separation. To that end, the April 15 IPNA Business Meeting will take place on Zoom.

If you want to attend the meeting, and we hope you do, please familiarize yourself with Zoom if you haven’t already had experience with it. You do not have to have a Zoom account in order to attend the meeting. To join the meeting, you will be prompted to download the software once you have clicked on the link that IPNA will provide. You will also be given a password to log into the meeting.
Phone numbers will be provided, giving an opportunity to call in by phone to listen to the meeting, but people who call in instead of using the app or the Zoom site will not be able to make motions, second motions, or vote. We will be voting on our slate of nominees for upcoming officer vacancies and on a few other agenda items. Please watch for more detailed instructions on how to join the meeting and participate, and also be on the lookout for the meeting agenda.
Here’s a link to the Zoom site where you can join now if you want to familiarize yourself. Basic membership is free.
Everyone take care, and we look forward to resuming in-person meetings as soon as possible!

IPNA and Trolley Barn Blood Drive

The American Red Cross now faces a severe blood shortage due to an unprecedented number of blood drive cancellations during this coronavirus outbreak.  Accordingly, IPNA and the Trolley Barn are co-hosting a blood drive on Thursday, April 9, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Trolley Barn, 963 Edgewood Avenue NE
To schedule an appointment to donate badly needed blood, go to redcrossblood.org (https://www.redcrossblood.org/) and use the sponsor code THETROLLEYBARN.
To protect us donors, the Red Cross is following these safety procedures, some of which are standard and some heightened:
  • Checking the temperature of staff and donors before entering a drive to make sure they are healthy
  • Providing hand sanitizer for use before the drive, as well as throughout the donation process
  • Spacing beds to follow social distancing practices between blood donors
  • Increasing enhanced disinfecting of all surfaces and all equipment
  • Routinely wiping down donor-touched areas
  • Wearing gloves and changing gloves with each donor
  • Using sterile collection sets for every donation
  • Preparing the arm for donation with an aseptic scrub
You can find an infographic on the Red Cross safety precautions at bit.ly/redcrossprecautions. You can read a letter from the Red Cross medical director at bit.ly/redcrossletter
Please consider donating blood. If you have questions or concerns, you may direct them to Jim Abbot, [email protected] or 404-281-0638. Thank you.

LifeLong Inman Park Neighbor to Neighbor Update

LifeLong Inman Park Neighbor to Neighbor Update
The LifeLong Inman Park Committee feels that community is more important than ever in these unpredictable and confusing times.  Therefore,  Neighbor to Neighbor volunteers would like to offer community assistance within the recommended boundaries of social distancing.  We are happy to pick up groceries and prescriptions or prepare and deliver meals to your porch to ease  troubled times.  Most of all, we would like neighbors to know that we care and stand ready to assist.  One way of doing that would be to establish telephone contact especially with our more vulnerable or isolated neighbors.  Volunteers will work from the recent directory to check in, just to say hi and how are you. Also, we would appreciate input from those of you aware of neighbors who might be struggling for various reasons.

We may not catch 100% of our neighbors at their telephones but just knowing that we are making the effort will spread the word that help can be available if it's needed.  Don't hesitate to call on us!
Contact Linda Gross at 404-545-5222 or Jackie Lawrence at 404-272-0024 or enter your request on the Inman Park website under the Lifelong Inman Park tab.  If you wish to volunteer your assistance please sign up via http://www.inmanpark.org under the Lifelong Inman Park tab, see Neighbor to Neighbor.
We look forward to hearing from you!

Inman Park Festival

Most of you probably already know the sad news that the festival has been postponed/cancelled but here is the official statement:

Our top priority is the safety and health of our patrons, artists, guests, staff, vendors and community. Therefore, due to COVID-19 concerns, Inman Park Spring Festival & Tour of Homes, scheduled to take place April 24-26, 2020 will be postponed or cancelled. We are evaluating if a rescheduled event is possible or if we will see you next April, 2021. We will announce more information in the next few weeks. We encourage all to adhere to the CDC guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Volunteer Fair Cancelled

The Volunteer Fair scheduled for Sunday, March 22, at the Trolley Barn has been cancelled.

Announcement Regarding Suspension of March IPNA Meeting

One thing is for sure: Social distancing is totally contrary to the nature of IPNA.

However, in order to help slow the spread of COVID-19, IPNA is suspending our March Business Meeting.

Based on a directive received Friday from the City, all NPUs are working to clear their March agendas in order to avoid meeting. NPU-N has asked its member organizations to reach out to their applicants and request deferrals. As a result, we have no zoning applications that need to be voted on this month, and there are also no historic preservation applications.

COVID-19 Contingency Plans

At our IPNA Board meeting on Tuesday, we put into place the following COVID-19 contingency plans:

1)     Next week's IPNA meeting on Wednesday, March 18, will be streamed on Facebook Live. Please join us virtually if you are ill, have been around anyone who is ill, or have decided to forego attending public events at this time. Watch for further instructions on how to join us online if you so choose. The board has decided that although our bylaws do not permit absentee voting, we will make an exception in the interest of helping prevent the spread of the virus. For the March 18 meeting, the following absentee voting rules will be in place:

MARTA Notice - no Green Line trains at Inman Park/Reyoldstown or Edgewood/Candler Park March 8-15

MARTA Notice - no Green Line trains at Inman Park/Reyoldstown or Edgewood/Candler Park March 8-15

MARTA is doing track work between Edgewood/Candler Park and East Lake Stations next week. The Green Line normally turns back Westbound on the section of track being repaired, so during this time Green Line trains will need to turn back at King Memorial. This means Inman Park/Reynoldstown and Edgewood/Candler Park will not have Green Line train service March 8-15. The Blue line will run a normal schedule, but will slow down between Edgewood/Candler Park and East Lake. Please allow extra time when you travel! March 11 - MR-MU Town Hall With Commissioner Keane

Good afternoon, all,

I have invited Commissioner Tim Keane of the Department of City Planning, and Keyetta Holmes, Interim Director of Zoning, to join us for a public conversation on MR-MU zoning designation and the City’s intent, expectations, and guidelines for it. All are welcome.

While the conversation may be shaped, in part, by MR-MU zoning in the Old Fourth Ward, other neighborhoods in District 2 will also be invited.

Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, March 11, at 6pm-7:30pm at the new Station 464 Apartment Homes (464 Boulevard NE 30308). A big thank you to Wingate for hosting us that evening.

All the best,
Amir

Little 5 Points Mobillty Study POP-UP STUDIO

Please drop in for one or more of the sessions.

For decades Little 5 Points has served as a go-to place for anyone looking to experience a unique slice of urban counterculture.  To call it a retail and entertainment destination would be missing the point.  Little 5 Points is an authentic Atlanta experience – one that mixes grit and creativity with underground theatre, cutting-edge music and unique mom-and-pop shops.  While these eccentricities are integral to Little 5 Points as a great place, its public spaces, streets, sidewalks and parking lots are long overdue for improvements.

The Little 5 Points CID and Little 5 Points Alliance are starting an ambitious effort to redesign the “bones” of L5P, with specific focus on Euclid Avenue and overall parking management.
