Tree Watch Programs

Committee Meetings

Tree Watch holds planning meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. All who support Tree Watch’s purpose are welcome to attend. Contact Chairman Richard Westrick.

Tree Plantings and Routine Care

Tree Watch works closely with Trees Atlanta to plant trees in front yards and sidewalk planting strips throughout Inman Park. An arborist assists the Tree Watch coordinator in selecting appropriate sites and species. On the scheduled day, neighborhood volunteers plant, mulch, and water the new trees. Inman Park residents are strongly encouraged to contact Tree Watch at any time to request that a tree or trees be planted in their front yard or sidewalk planting strip. The Tree Watch coordinator will call you to explain what is required, to set up a site visit, and to schedule the planting (on a weekend from October to March). Volunteers are needed for planting and tree care. Coordinator for plantings and routine care: Jim Abbot.

Street Tree Maintenance

Tree Watch contracts with Arborguard Tree Specialists, Inc. to prune and monitor Inman Park’s larger street trees that are not growing under or near power lines. The maintenance schedule is dependent on availability of funds. Coordinator for street tree maintenance: Marge Hays.

Arboretum / Tree Walk

Tree Watch is collaborating with Trees Atlanta to create a neighborhood arboretum and tree walk. Granite markers will identify tree species and a companion brochure is being prepared. Coordinators for the Inman Park Arboretum: Amy Higgins and Oreon Mann.

Tree Huggers Ball

Tree Watch hosts an annual Tree Huggers Ball at the conclusion of the planting season (typically in February). The Tree Huggers Ball takes place on a Saturday evening at the Trolley Barn on Edgewood Avenue, and it features a live band, dancing, a silent auction, refreshments, and a rollicking good time. Coordinator for the Tree Huggers Ball: Susan Danner.

Advocacy

Tree Watch is a vocal advocate for the protection of Atlanta’s tree canopy. Coordinator for advocacy: Jim Abbot.
