Tree Huggers’ BallIn 2001, several Inman Park neighbors came together and formed the Inman Park Tree Watch committee, with the goal of replenishing and maintaining our tree canopy. With the help of Arborguard, Inc., we surveyed all the public-space trees in Inman Park, and discovered that most were approaching the end of their life spans. Since then, through our twice-yearly plantings in conjunction with Trees Atlanta, we’ve planted nearly 500 trees in our lawns, tree-lawns, and parks (including the trees along the Marta wall on DeKalb Ave.). Our latest major project is the removal of the Bradford Pears at the intersection of Elizabeth St. and Edgewood Ave. These will be replaced by Trident Maples, which are better adapted to the environment there.
Our only source of funds for these projects is our annual Tree Huggers’ Ball, which this year is February 19th, 2005, from 8:00pm - Midnight, at the Inman Park Trolley Barn. We’ll have dancing music provided by Blue Velvets and Dixie Mafia, beer from Sweetwater, wine, soft drinks and munchies. You will also have the opportunity to bid on goods and services in our Silent Auction! Admission is free, but we will, of course, be happy to accept your tax-deductible contributions to our efforts.
Please come and join us in celebrating our Intown Forest! Oh, by the way - dress is dirt-casual!
