Homeowner: David and Alfredia Scott

Your home is your castle! In the case of State Senator David Scott and his wife Alfredia this is quite true. In 1997, after a two-year search, they purchased this turreted brick house known in Inman Park as "the castle." Completed in 1908 for George Floding, this spacious, Richardsonian Romanesque house was extensively renovated in the 1970s after being divided into apartments by a previous owner.

As you enter the house, a tile fireplace warms the elegant rounded foyer. Two sets of Ionic columns mark the entrance to the dining room. The Scotts added the lovely dining room mural, a French garden scene painted by a Hungarian artist. The spacious kitchen features white cabinets with beveled glass and incorporates space that was formerly a back porch. The bright and airy sun porch overlooks the garden and patio.

The Scotts enjoy decorating their home with antique furniture and other collectibles. Not to be missed are Alfredia's beautiful clocks and a refurbished antique piano in the living room. Both Scotts are sports enthusiasts and collectors of baseball memorabilia. Also on display are items brought back from destinations that include Jamaica and South Africa.

Owners of an advertising agency, the Scotts love to entertain and their home's spacious rooms and brick patio welcome large groups. In 1999 they hosted a 65th birthday celebration for Alfredia's brother, baseball star Hank Aaron. Over 300 guests attended, including the governor and lieutenant governor. Alfredia's favorite time of year is the holiday season; decorations this past year included a Victorian Christmas tree and garlands for all eight fireplace mantels. In all seasons, this is a house to be enjoyed - both for its grand spaces so conducive to entertaining and its private spaces so comfortable for restful living.
