Speeding in the Inman Park

Speeding in Inman Park is becoming an increasing issue for public safety as well as noise and overall quality of life issues. Unfortunately, the Atlanta Police Department (APD) is understaffed by approximately 400 officers, and the funds are not present to cure this issue in the near future.

Therefore, here’s what your Public Safety Committee and Security Patrol Members’ dollars are doing to affect this issue.

• Meeting with MARTA Operations and Public Safety officials to find a solution to the bus traffic and speeding within our neighborhood.
• Security Patrol Members will be offered Slow Down signs to be placed in their yards to remind motorists that they are driving in a neighborhood with pedestrians, children and pets.
• Investigating with the APD the ability to set-up speed traps within Inman Park.
• Meeting with Tamara Jones to insure that the proposed Traffic Calming Plan addresses the speeding issues, and if not we will propose additions/changes without holding up the plan. This may include stop signs and/or speed humps.

Most importantly, here’s what YOU can do as a resident of Inman Park. Become a Rolling Speed Barrier. This has been proven to be an effective speeding and traffic deterrent in other neighborhoods. Here’s what you do and what the effects can be:

• Make sure that YOU drive the speed limit while in the neighborhood.
• Tell others (friends, relatives, etc.) to obey the speed limits while in Inman Park.
• You will find that if we ALL do this that other drivers will be forced to slow down.
• Over time, drivers from outside of Inman Park will look for other routes.

Remember it is YOUR vigilance (of threats), communication (to the Police #911), compliance (of laws and regulations) and dollars (to the Security Patrol) that help to increase the peace, safety and security of Inman Park.
