Announcement Regarding Suspension of March IPNA Meeting

One thing is for sure: Social distancing is totally contrary to the nature of IPNA.

However, in order to help slow the spread of COVID-19, IPNA is suspending our March Business Meeting.

Based on a directive received Friday from the City, all NPUs are working to clear their March agendas in order to avoid meeting. NPU-N has asked its member organizations to reach out to their applicants and request deferrals. As a result, we have no zoning applications that need to be voted on this month, and there are also no historic preservation applications.

COVID-19 Contingency Plans

At our IPNA Board meeting on Tuesday, we put into place the following COVID-19 contingency plans:

1)     Next week's IPNA meeting on Wednesday, March 18, will be streamed on Facebook Live. Please join us virtually if you are ill, have been around anyone who is ill, or have decided to forego attending public events at this time. Watch for further instructions on how to join us online if you so choose. The board has decided that although our bylaws do not permit absentee voting, we will make an exception in the interest of helping prevent the spread of the virus. For the March 18 meeting, the following absentee voting rules will be in place:

MARTA Notice - no Green Line trains at Inman Park/Reyoldstown or Edgewood/Candler Park March 8-15

MARTA Notice - no Green Line trains at Inman Park/Reyoldstown or Edgewood/Candler Park March 8-15

MARTA is doing track work between Edgewood/Candler Park and East Lake Stations next week. The Green Line normally turns back Westbound on the section of track being repaired, so during this time Green Line trains will need to turn back at King Memorial. This means Inman Park/Reynoldstown and Edgewood/Candler Park will not have Green Line train service March 8-15. The Blue line will run a normal schedule, but will slow down between Edgewood/Candler Park and East Lake. Please allow extra time when you travel! March 11 - MR-MU Town Hall With Commissioner Keane

Good afternoon, all,

I have invited Commissioner Tim Keane of the Department of City Planning, and Keyetta Holmes, Interim Director of Zoning, to join us for a public conversation on MR-MU zoning designation and the City’s intent, expectations, and guidelines for it. All are welcome.

While the conversation may be shaped, in part, by MR-MU zoning in the Old Fourth Ward, other neighborhoods in District 2 will also be invited.

Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, March 11, at 6pm-7:30pm at the new Station 464 Apartment Homes (464 Boulevard NE 30308). A big thank you to Wingate for hosting us that evening.

All the best,
Amir

Little 5 Points Mobillty Study POP-UP STUDIO

Please drop in for one or more of the sessions.

For decades Little 5 Points has served as a go-to place for anyone looking to experience a unique slice of urban counterculture.  To call it a retail and entertainment destination would be missing the point.  Little 5 Points is an authentic Atlanta experience – one that mixes grit and creativity with underground theatre, cutting-edge music and unique mom-and-pop shops.  While these eccentricities are integral to Little 5 Points as a great place, its public spaces, streets, sidewalks and parking lots are long overdue for improvements.

The Little 5 Points CID and Little 5 Points Alliance are starting an ambitious effort to redesign the “bones” of L5P, with specific focus on Euclid Avenue and overall parking management.

IPNA Tax Reform Committee Proposals

Proposed Homestead Exemptions from School Taxes--Plan A

Retain present Homestead exemption from school taxes (enacted in 2018 and in effect until 2021). Exempts $50,000 of assessed value above the first $10,000.  Everyone pays school taxes on the first $10,000 in valuation; school taxes are exempted up to assessed values of $60,000; beyond that valuation, there are presently no additional exemptions.

Hulsey Yard Master Plan Vote

As announced at the December meeting, IPNA will be requesting a vote of support at the Jan. 15 IPNA meeting for the Hulsey Yard Master Plan. IPNA, along with Reynoldstown, Cabbagetown, and Fourth Ward Neighbors, organized, funded and guided the study.  With the backing of the four neighborhoods, the plan will be brought to NPU-N for support of its adoption into the City's Comprehensive Development Plan. A copy of the final document can be found here, and more information about the planning process can be found here:  https://hulseymasterplan.com/ .

Plant Trees and Shrubs in Springvale Park

Celebrate MLK Weekend by joining your neighbors to plant trees and shrubs in Springvale Park on Saturday, January 18, 9:00 a.m. to noon. Meet at the corner of Edgewood and Waverly. All ages are welcome! No experience is necessary! Trees Atlanta and Inman Park Tree Watch will provide both tools and instruction. You should wear closed-toed shoes or boots and clothes that can get dirty. If you have your own work gloves, bring them. Also bring water in a reusable container. If you prefer not to plant, you can fill buckets with mulch. If you don't care for pitchforks, you could volunteer to bring snacks. If baking's not your thing, you can simply ooh and aah as our fabulous neighborhood continues its incredible efforts to return its beloved park to its full glory. Trees Atlanta would be delighted to have you sign up in advance: simply go to http://bit.ly/SpringvalePlanting. Contact Jim Abbot ([email protected], 404-281-0638) with questions.
Inman Park Tree Watch is also organizing a Leap Day Tree Planting for Saturday, February 29. We will mostly be replacing young trees that have died, but any neighbor interested in leaping into a greener future, by planting a shade tree in your yard or smaller tree along the street, should feel free to contact Jim. Additional details to come.

Elvis' Birthday Party, January 8, in L5P

Krog Tunnel Closure

The Krog Street tunnel will be partially closed/closed for filming on Jan 8,9&10.  See notice below for specifics on times and the type of closure. While this affects our neighbors to the south more than Inman Park, we want everyone to be safe!

Beltline Subarea 5 Masterplan

The Beltline team came to the last IPNA meeting and made a presentation about the Beltline Subarea 5 Masterplan and where they currently are in the process.  This was just an announcement for the neighborhoods that make up this particular Subarea. They are still seeking public comment on the draft document which lives on their website at www.beltline.org/masterplanupdates. All meeting materials are up to date on the website at www.beltline.org/meetings.
